Maggie, Denzil, and Ziggy are the three dogs that solidified our love of Cardigans. If you’re interested in learning more about the dogs on this page, please check out the blog I kept during their heyday. wagsnwoofs.blogspot.com
Maggie
Maggie was my first Cardigan and the first dog I had as an adult. Maggie came to me from Carolyn Cannon at C-Myste Cardigan Welsh Corgis. I got Maggie as a companion and hiking buddy - but Maggie had other ideas.
It became clear in our first obedience class that Maggie was a smart girl who loved to work. We started in companion/household classes and my instructors encouraged me to continue, something I’m very thankful for, as this was the start of my dog-sports addiction/hobby. Maggie and I earned titles in obedience, rally, and agility. Her “official” name was C-Myste Sweet Dreams CDX RAE MJP AXP CGC VCX.
We said goodbye to Maggie when she was 14.5 years old. Even as a deaf old dog Maggie still loved to work, and I’ll always appreciate the bossy little dog who got me hooked on dog sports.
Denzil
Denzil was our second Cardigan, and a very special boy. He had a lovely, engaging personality that drew people to him.
Denzil did dog sports until he was around 4 years old, when he had his first “episode” of IVDD (he had another episode 2 years later) . Denzil recovered well with crate rest, but I could no longer in good conscience ask him to jump, as he was the sort of dog who would have done whatever was asked of him, no matter to toll on his body.
During his brief performance career, Denzil earned titles in obedience, rally, and agility. His “official” name was C-Myste Baledwr N’Corigible CD RE NA NAP CGC
Ziggy
Ziggy was Cardigan #3 for us, and he taught us a LOT. A good deal of which we wish we never had to learn.
Ziggy was a sweet, calm, loving boy who became a therapy dog and loved children. He once escaped from our yard and ran over to the local elementary school (which, thankfully was very close) to visit the children.
Ziggy taught me about motivational dog training, as he decided as a young dog that most of the time he’d rather be a couch potato.
Most notable, however, is how much Ziggy taught us about IVDD. He went down at 4 years old and never regained the ability to walk — living out the remainder of his life as a cart dog. You can learn about our journey through IVDD at this link: http://wagsnwoofs.blogspot.com/search/label/IVDD
In his brief performance career, Ziggy earned titles in obedience and rally and was a therapy dog certified by TDInc. His official name was Xtacee Tag You’re It RA BN CGC TDInc
